How can we practice our dharmic rules in these modern times?

The rules and regulations of Hindu dharma are quite complex but yet not difficult. It is incorrect to term them as ‘Hindu dharma’. In reality, it is ‘Human dharma’. **Dharma does not imply a set of rules and regulations. In reality, it means leading a life accompanied by good principles. **

Yes, in modern times life is extremely busy and yet filled with lethargy. What should a person do? Is there a middle path? The answer to this is easy.

The most important dharmic principles are- Be truthful; give up jealously and develop a broad humanitarian outlook.

Within the four walls of your home abide by your rituals and lifestyle as taught to you. But in public do not impose it on others.

Do not hurt those who are dependent upon you for example, your parents. Respect and love them. Remember that they are the cause for your existence in the world today. Do not hurt them by forcing your disciplines on to them. Be more tolerant and understanding.

When time permits read Bhagavad gita and try to imbibe its essence. It has answers to most of life’s problems. Meditate for 10 minutes every day.

You have the added benefit of having a Sadguru in your life. Don’t give it up. Be patriotic. Praising the country of your birth and criticising the country you live in is also wrong. It is like living in a friend’s home and criticising him. You have been living in Malaysia for long. So love this nation and respect it. Never discriminate between nations or races. Within your home follow your dharma to the core. But in society have a broad, universal outlook. This is real Hindu dharma.
