Ego may be needed in a small portion to lead a normal life. But in spiritual parlance ego is not needed. Rational being, ‘once you merge into God, the first thing to be eliminated is ego’. God and ego are contradictory.

Ego is the sense of ‘I-ness and mine-ness’. Such feelings are essential to live in this world but become an obstruction to enter God’s territory. All of us aim to enter His territory which is Pure Consciousness. You can remain in this world and yet remain ego-less. Pure ‘Self’ is the form of the person who has destroyed his ego.
