There are many books that describe the rules to follow while chanting the Devi Khadgamala Stotram. It should not be told in public, it is a special initiation (upadesha).
Even if no regulations are followed, it is permissible to chant the Stotra if you have pure devotion. Rules do not matter. When you wish to chant the Stotra, you only need to follow the rules of external and internal cleanliness, and with a clean mind and pure devotion, proceed with the chanting of the Stotra. You should light a ghee lamp and offering just sugar candy to Mother Goddess will suffice.
The Stotra can be chanted as many times as you wish to, provided you are able to do so without disturbances. With children making noise around you, it is not possible to chant for long. If you wake up early in the morning, you can chant peacefully, while the kids are asleep.
Different practices are followed in different parts of the country with regards to the offering to make, the number of times to chant etc.
The way I chant Khadgamala Stotram is that first, I light a ghee lamp. I keep sugar candy as offering. And with a pure mind, I chant this Stotra every day. I do it daily.
You can chant for 9, 18 or 40 days and at the end of the period, you can provide groceries as charity to married women for them to use at home. If you have the capacity, you should give them a Sari as well. The charity should be done as per your capacity. You can also worship young girls and give them clothes.
If there is nothing to offer, just lighting a lamp and chanting with a pure heart will be sufficient. You can just follow the instructions by your Guru as the final Upadesha.
