Sixth Canto Chapter Fifteen In this chapter, Maharishi Angirasa preaches about dispassion (vairagya) to King Chitraketu.
Maharishi Angirasa continued, “Wife, house, material prosperity, comforts, wealth, sensory pleasures known as touch, form, taste, sound and smell, this Earth, army, kingdom, granaries, servants, friends and enemies are all impermanent creations.
The subtle body of the prince continued to speak, “Just as precious gems and golden ornaments continuously move from one hand to another through activities of buying and selling, based on his past fruitive activities, the bonded soul travels from one womb to another acquiring newer set of parents each time”.
Maharishi Nārada continues to initiate King Chitraketu, “Namo vijñāna-mātrāya paramānanda-mūrtaye Ātmārāmāya śāntāya nivṛtta-dvaita-dṛṣṭaye
King Chitraketu continued, “O Supreme Lord! You are Pure Consciousness. Although intentions that sprout in Your mind emerge from desire, akin to burnt seeds they cannot cause newer births.
The Supreme Lord continued, “Labdhveha mānuṣīṁ yoniṁ jñāna-vijñāna-sambhavām Ātmānaṁ yo na buddhyeta na kvacit kṣemam āpnuyāt
Achutāya namah Not realizing the supreme essence of Shiva, Chitraketu ridiculed him.
Adhokṣajāya namah Lord Shiva continued, “The Supreme Lord does not favour one while despising another.
“From Diti’s womb 49 Marut-gaṇās were born. None of them had any sons.
